Social Networking for the Geek Set

March 29, 2008 at 7:57 am | | science community, wild web

Recently I went to a talk on networking that was put on by the people behind Nature Network. It was interesting to see how the editors of Nature saw the future of social networking in the sciences.

I’m generally not a big fan of social networking. Had a Friendster account when it was still in early beta (2000?). That’s about it. Sites like LinkedIn and Nature Network make sense to me though, I just signed up. Do you folks use social networking sites for scientists? Any other suggestions?

Oh, and please drop by my profile if you sign up.

  1. Never tried a social network geared toward scientists. That may prove to be more interesting than Friendster or any of the others. It may rekindle my hope for the internet ;-)

  2. Nature Network seems fairly user friendly although it feels like early beta for now…

  3. Hi – There are a few networks out there in addition to Nature Networks like Connotea (also owned by Nature), and BiomedExperts but none of them seem to have gotten a good amount of scientists involved. I am also looking for a social networking tool for scientists that is easy to use and fosters collaboration. ilya – what made you join Nature Networks after all this time? What did the people behind Nature Network say at the talk?
