more lit: penguin pooh

This is a real article in Polar Biology. And it reports upon what the title promises. I mean, just look at this figure:
You can’t beat that. Nor can you make it up. Thanks to Ilya for this and the swimming paper. You know, I bet this research is sticky, too…

My money is this gem winds up with an Ignobel award. I like the fact that they used the stone texture for the ground in their diagram.

I’m particularly fond of the penguin’s feet…oh, and the fact that thaey spelled “defaecation” like thaey might in aencient Rome, and “pooh” like the bear, not so much like the act of excreting turds (spelled “poo”).

and they didn’t even control for types of food eaten – i mean i’d like to think there’d be a significant difference if the penguin was chowing down on a crunch wrap supreme vs. a ceasar salad. am i wrong, people?
