jobs anyone?

I need to start looking for a job.

W. E. Moerner, a chemistry professor at Stanford University, says he has a couple of Ph.D. students aiming to graduate later this year, and he is worried about their ability to find positions. “This is only a concern right now, as they have most of the year to finish,” he says. (C&E News)

Perhaps I’m a little naive about career paths, but is ending up in industry necessarily a death knell for future academic careers? Perhaps chemistry is different than chemical engineering, but the former head of my department worked in industry for decades. One of the best professors I’ve ever had was an adjunct that also headed tech. development at a huge company. Hell, if you’re only after teaching, teach a class at a local college or high school. What about national labs?

Dropped by and caught up with several pages. The final verdict is I like this bit here the most.

All the best during the most of the year, after which… I don’t know. Too early to say.

But do get a feeling that you are finishing up. That’s good.
