  5. The fish is first ionized with an ion-lamp (right panel) and dissolved into solution. A potential gradient is applied on the solution via an electrode, causing the ionized fish to migrate through a series of tubes modeled after the tubes used in the internet (1). After passing through the “inter-tube”, the ionized fish attaches to the positive electrode and is removed from solution. The solution was a 1:1 Acetonitrile/Water solution with a 0.1M NaClO4 supporting electrolyte. The electrodes (left panel and right panels) were Pt-rod, and potential difference between the electrodes was ~0.7V vs NHE.  The ionizer was a Ti:Sapphire incadescent laser-bulb pulsed at frequency 1.5 pHz with a 10^14 W/cm2 intensity.  After the experiment, the ionized fish were destroyed and their brains stained.

  6. Charles, your post reminds me of a show I saw on Discovery Channel. They were studying chemical uptake in fish, so they went out and caught a couple of fish in the various rivers. The fish were then liquified in a blender, the liquid fish solution was extracted with CHCl3, and then shot on a HPLC.

  7. The heterodyne correlation function of the blood flow in the femoral vein of an albino goldfish. The right photo was taken prior to killing the goldfish while the left photo was taken after making a cardboard cutout (shown as dotted goldfish) and forcing it through the internet tubes
