the south is strange

July 9, 2008 at 8:44 am | | great finds

…Evidenced by this currency I received as change in Columbia, SC:

I was forced to spend it when I ran out of cash. Unfortunately, I handed it to a Black cashier in Chicago; I hope she didn’t notice.

I actually really like the South: I spent a few years in Chapel Hill, NC, and enjoyed it. Racism and anti-intellectualism is sickening, though.

  2. This belongs in “not science”. And that $5 is all about Abe Lincoln’s support for Malcolm X. I know, I know; it’s hard to tell.

  3. As a Southerner who has lived above the Mason-Dixon for a while now, I can say I have seen way more Stars and Bars north of it than south of it.

  7. Just a small one
To begin with that symbol recognizes a noble cause
to say that the civil war was fought over slavery
or racial hatred is to be uninformed of actual historic
facts or markers if you will and while the confederate
states listed a desire for continued slavery in their
articles of succession the actual war was to be fought
for states rights (Yes, the right of a state to make laws
to govern its people and yes if they saw fit to succeed
from the Union and why because before the war all states
were sovereigns although united for protection under an
umbrella like governing body, I refer you to the Native
    Americans style of Democracy.)
However, the southern states began to see in the Union
a complication one that survives to this day they were to
list this as a cause for succession and that was the Unions
    desire to be an Empire.
Abraham Lincoln’s presidency quickly succumbed to Despotic
rule and in this arena he led the union to fight an illegal
war against his own people for what he believed to be for
the sake of the Union but was to quickly become an Empire
which would eventually be known to force it style of Democracy
on other countries around the world and impose sanctions on
    those countries unwilling to submit.
Who told these men who built this nation that it was for them to advance (Force) this democracy on others.
It was because foreseeing this the south wished to succeed
but you don’t have to take my word for it you can
certainly research the facts for yourselves and please
remember there has always been racism in the world the
problems facing this nation came from beyond the slavery
    of the south.
And to those southerners both black and white racial hatred
is unbecoming of a TRUE SOUTHERNER!
and to those stamping (defacing)the five dollar bill, thats
illegal and if you are a true confederate you must realise
just how useless and uninformed you really are.
The United States of America is a legal government deserving
    of your respect.
If the south succeeds it must be by legal means and not by
    war!
Thats it had my say, thanks.
