My advisor W.E. Moerner was elected to the National Academy of Sciences this morning. Two other science faculty members at Stanford were also elected new members: Mike Fayer and Steve Block. The departement will celebrate this afternoon with an ice-cream social. That’s nice…

  1. My advisor also just got elected. the department hasn’t done anything, but she bought us beer at the terrace… maybe you could convince your advisor to do something similar. :-D

  2. Cool! Who is your advisor, Rachael? Kiessling?
    .
I also saw that Bawendi was elected as well as Graham Fleming. Any other names I should have recognized?

  3. good guess ;) Kiessling is correct! did the terrace give it away?

Let’s see, maybe Sean Carroll here in madison.

i noticed moerner on the list and scolded my labmates for not recognizing his name. you guys do some pretty cool stuff!

  4. i have the power to see that your ip address was from UW, so I figured kiessling was probably the best bet. in other words, i cheated.

  5. that would be the easy way ;)

I’m glad you have this blog. it is a constant source of amusement. especially when experiments fail (i.e. today). My mathematician brother, and engineer/physicist/statistition dad have also enjoyed the links i’ve sent them. they about died when they saw the graph on the fat = stupid post. :-D
