great TOC
May 28, 2009 at 9:25 am | sam | crazy figure contest, literatureI love clever table-of-contents artwork. I’ve never seen any rules about TOC artwork: it could be just about anything that advertises the paper well.
I love this one. Pretty classy, and it gets the point across. The view also has a hint of 1984-esque industrialistic dystopia. I guess that’s Madison for you.

That is cute! But I think that previous JACS paper is even more epic. A good graphical abstract is significant in a sense that it doesn’t only draw reader’s attention to the paper, but also start the possibly long and dense paper off on a more light-hearted note.
Another thing that can inject some humor into the paper is the subtitle. Angewandte Chemie has got a wicked sense of humor: http://www.chemistry-blog.com/2009/04/24/1621/
